Site Improvement
A tree in poor condition can be the result of problems with the location:
Was the ground around the tree raised?
Was the soil around the tree compacted by heavy machinery, animals?
Has the groundwater level changed due to persistent drought or well point drainage?
Etc.
We often come across trees with loss of condition that are completely surrounded by lawn.
Grass roots compete with tree roots for water and minerals. In addition, grass soil is more compacted and has a less rich soil life.
Forest soil is the perfect soil for trees and we can strive for this by:
Applying a mulch layer (see here)
Drilling nutrient tubes filled with potting soil enriched with organic fertilizers can also improve the soil.
