Trim shapes

Trees can be shaped vertically, horizontally, or at an angle. Pleached linden trees, espaliered fruit trees, and roof-trained plane trees are examples of this. This pruning form requires intensive management: the trees must be pruned annually or every few years.

Winter pruning: the shoots are cut back to the main framework branch.

Summer pruning: if desired, the new shoots can be trimmed so that excessively long branches do not cause nuisance.
